Day 5 In Sync

Words from the Rock

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, you may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted! When you produce much fruit, you are my true disciples. This brings great glory to my Father.

John 15:7–8 NLT

Some people hear Jesus’s promise like this: “You may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” And they get all excited like they just won the lottery, or like Jesus is their personal Santa Claus. They ask for anything and it’s theirs—who wouldn’t jump on board? So they start making their wish lists. But they overlook the previous line of the verse: “If you remain in me and my words remain in you.” What those people don’t realize is that there’s a prerequisite.

Jesus has already gone to great lengths for you to understand the magnitude of staying connected to him—nothing is more important than that. Now he’s saying you’re in him and his words are in you. That’s a very intimate connection. It means your mind, heart, and soul are planted firmly in Jesus, and his words are buried deep inside of you. It’s not simply being connected to Jesus; it’s being completely enmeshed with him until he’s such a part of you that you think, live, love, and act like him. It’s a position that every believer should aspire to, but it will take a lot of surrendering on your part. If you reach that place of connectedness, you will be able to ask for anything you want and get it—because you will be asking for what Jesus wants too. You and Jesus will be in perfect sync.

But it’s a process, and just like the vine must stay attached to the trunk so that in the right season and time it will bear fruit, you too must remain connected to Jesus. When you are one with Jesus, you can ask for anything—and you will get it.

My Prayer

Dear God,

Please help me to remain in you, and let your words and your will remain in me so that together we can do amazing things!

Amen.

Final Word

If you’re serious about living this new resurrection life with Christ, act like it. Pursue the things over which Christ presides.

Colossians 3:1 Message

Stone for the Journey

When I am in sync with Jesus, I can ask for anything and he will do it.
