Day 2 Love Letter

Words from the Rock

Righteous Father, the world has never known you, but I have known you, and these disciples know that you sent me on this mission. I have made your very being known to them—who you are and what you do—and continue to make it known, so that your love for me might be in them exactly as I am in them.

John 17:25–26 Message

What if you really, really loved someone, but they lived in an extremely remote place on the other side of the planet—a location so removed that there was no internet and no phones, and it was too far for you to travel there? What if your only hope of communicating your love to them was through the postal service, which only delivered mail once in a while? Of course, you would write that person a letter. A very carefully worded letter in which you’d represent all of your thoughts, dreams, hopes, desires . . . and love for them. You would want to write the perfect love letter.

That’s kind of how God felt—only his love letter came in the form of his Son. Jesus came to earth to express every loving thought, dream, hope, and desire that God has for you. All of this was written on Jesus’s heart and delivered to earth so you could understand how much God loves you. A perfect love letter.

In the same way, Jesus wants you to be his love letter. You are the way that Jesus, now in heaven, can communicate with the people around you. Your kindness, your helpfulness, your caring, your generosity, your love . . . all convey the love that Jesus wants to share with others. You are his love letter.

My Prayer

Dear God,

Thank you for sending Jesus as your love letter. Please help me to be a better message of love to the people around me.

Amen.

Final Word

If we can encourage others, we should encourage them. If we can give, we should be generous. If we are leaders, we should do our best. If we are good to others, we should do it cheerfully.

Romans 12:8 CEV
