Afterword
The urdhvaretas map of human development shows how romantic-erotic love and marriages can grow for a whole lifetime with just as dramatic a pace as our personal maturation during our teen-puberty years, fostering the kind of lifelong relationships that then lead to loving, secure, unbroken family lineages, to be passed on generation upon generation, “as far as the eye can see.”
Spiritual enlightenment itself becomes a fully embodied and generation-to-generation continuous and ever-expanding process of seed-infused radiance perhaps someday embracing the whole Vasudhaiva kutumbakam, culturally diverse world. For within urdhvaretas, there is always another fractal realm of retas potentials within another and another, which allure us inwardly ever closer to some mysteriously shared Origin of origins, Seed of all seeds realm, and outwardly toward the angelic beauty of every newborn, the budding radiance of every child and teen entering puberty aglow with matured seed-within-seed mysteries herself, every starry-eyed couple in love, each pregnant woman in contented wholeness, wide-eyed new father and brimming grandpa and grandma.
Indeed, when a Buddha “ends all rebirth” via his ecstatic inner marriage, this is the profound storehouse of powers he has “burned up” in order to do so. Consider what it would be like to awaken analogous, deeply resting, creative-retas powers in your own embodied life and relationships, now and forever forward. This is the matured “duality that approaches nonduality” that all saints guide us toward, one that has grown real roots in engaged, embodied living, roots that hold and verify our maturity and spiritual creativity. In its ever more flesh-permeating pathways, it breathes charismatic energies into us from the twilight ars erotica teachings of the great bhakti-kavi and tantric scriptures, as well.
Yet the scientia sexualis of mainstream Western religions and psychology have only given us garbled or fundamentally deseeded understandings of how the great seed powers, the prepotent soul of it all, can ever more fully radiate into our lives. The inner antidesire conflicts, familial brokenness, cynicisms, and shallow yet ubiquitous scientia prodesire eroticisms of modern culture perfectly reflect the exact ways those faulty maps are garbled and shallow. Their politics have turned deep mysteries of gender, fertility, reverence, and the passions of arousal into shrill debates that rest on these worn-out soils, pretending to be bedrock truths of life and freedom.
Nearly four decades ago, a two-thousand-year-old yogic candle-to-candle tradition extended its hand to me with love and tenderness, revealing a way beyond these broken times and onto ars erotica terra firma, just as I extend some few glimmers of its twilight radiances to you through this book. May these glowing seeds of love mature well and blossom in your own life, in the lives of those near and dear to you, and in our shared, One Family world.
