BURGER KING

Big King

THE ULTIMATE DOUBLE BURGER! NOW, EVEN BETTER, BECAUSE IT’S PREPARED FRESH AND HOT FROM THE GRILL.

1/2 cup mayonnaise, regular or reduced calorie

2 tablespoons French dressing

1 tablespoon yellow mustard

1 teaspoon sugar

1 tablespoon sweet pickle relish

1 teaspoon white wine vinegar

11/2 pounds ground beef or chuck

3 teaspoons kosher salt

11/2 teaspoons pepper

4 sesame seed hamburger buns, split in half

8 slices American cheese

2 medium onions, sliced 1/4-inch thick

8 slices dill pickles

11/2 cups shredded iceberg lettuce

1. Do ahead: To make the sauce, whisk together the mayonnaise, dressing, mustard, and sugar. When the sugar is dissolved, add the pickle relish and vinegar. Stir to blend well and refrigerate, covered, until ready to use.

2. Season the ground beef with the salt and pepper. Using your hands, blend the seasonings into the beef, but do not overwork the meat. Form the meat into 8 patties of about 3 ounces each. Cover and refrigerate until ready to use.

3. Light a charcoal barbecue or heat a gas grill to medium. Clean the grate and coat it with vegetable oil.

4. Grill the patties 2 to 3 minutes per side, or until cooked to your preferred doneness.

5. Grill the hamburger buns until lightly toasted.

6. On the bottom bun, place one patty and follow with one slice of cheese, then another patty and another slice of cheese.

7. Follow with 3 onion slices, 2 pickle slices, and shredded lettuce.

8. Spread the top part of the bun with 2 tablespoons of sauce and finish the burger.

This Big King was one of Burger King’s first entries into the famous burger wars with McDonald’s. Their current double burger is much the same but includes sliced tomato.
