Two Weeks Later
After Shamoney explained that his purpose for being at the Ramada Inn was to save his son from a serial killer, the FBI believed his story, under the perilous circumstances, and freed him.
Despite a battered face, a bullet to her right shoulder, and a graze to her temple that left an ugly scar, Gina had survived by the grace of darkness.
“So, what are you goin’ to do now?” Shamoney asked Gina, who was lying in the hospital bed with a bandage wrapped around her head and a sling on her right arm.
Shamoney was feeding Gina some delicious pecan ice cream and had been up to see her every day since her admission at St. Mary’s Medical Center. However, due to the ongoing investigation and Black still being on the loose, today was their first visit.
“I’ma change his name, Shada,” Gina responded.
“To what?” Shamoney asked curiously.
“To Shada Alexandra Wilkins.”
“In other words, that’s a Jr., lil brah,” Real chimed in from the corner of the room.
He was sitting in a comfortable chair playing with this nephew, Patron Jr. Gina had put a warm smile on Shamoney’s face.
I got me a Jr., Shamoney thought with elation.
“So, friends fo’ life. No baby mama drama?” Gina retorted, stipulating their future relations.
“Yeah, friends fo’ life,” Shamoney agreed, giving Gina a pound on her good fist.
“How could I not be? You saved me twice,” Gina almost choked.
“Real, thank you too. You came out of nowhere and made a difference in all our lives,” she added.
“Blood is always first,” Real said.
Gina could see Real talking, but could no longer hear him. When she looked at Shamoney, she saw that he was attentive to what Real was saying.
“Shamoney,” Gina screamed, but she couldn’t hear herself either.
What’s going on? she thought as she began to panic.
When Gina looked toward the door, she saw a very dark-skinned doctor in his scrubs smiling at her.
Neither Shamoney nor Real was aware of the doctor standing in the doorway. But Gina’s heart dropped when she recognized who he was.
Oh my God! Gina thought.
He smiled at her and then winked his eye.
“The gods will never let you get away with your infidelity. I gave Pat to the gods as a sacrifice for the sake of the kids. The gods only want everything you can hear,” Black said to Gina as he stormed away from the room, leaving Gina deaf to all sounds on earth.
When she looked over at Real and Shamoney, they were laughing, and Patron Jr. was crying as Real tried his best to comfort him.
He put voodoo on me! Gina thought.
