Squares Scarf

Granny squares are traditional, fun and easy to make, and once you start on them, you will quickly become hooked! Join lots of squares together to make a lovely, simple scarf.

MEASUREMENTS

One size, approx 15 x 112cm (6 x 44in).

YARN

1 x 50g ball – approx 90m (98yds) – of Patons Fairytale Dreamtime DK, 100% pure wool, in each of:

Yarn A: shade 4953, pink

Yarn B: shade 4954, lilac

Yarn C: shade 4957, turquoise

Yarn D: shade 4952, lime

Yarn E: shade 4960, yellow

ALTERNATIVE YARNS

Any DK weight yarn will do to achieve the same size scarf, but you can use any yarn you like, the scarf will simply come out a different size!

TENSION

Each square measures approx 8 x 8cm (3¼ x 3¼in) using a 4.5mm hook.

*4.5mm crochet hook

*Darning needle

SQUARE

(make as many as required, scarf shown has 28)

Using any yarn and 4.5mm hook, ch 4, join to first ch with a sl st to form ring.

Rnd 1: Ch 3 (counts as first tr), 2tr in ring, ch 3, (3tr in ring, ch 3) three times, join rnd with a sl st to top of first ch, sl st to next 3-ch sp.

Rnd 2: Ch 3 (counts as first tr), work (2tr, ch 3, 3tr) all in same 3-ch sp, ch 1, *work (3tr, ch 3, 3tr) all in next 3-ch sp, ch 1; rep from * twice more, join rnd with a sl st to top of first ch, sl st to next 3-ch sp.

Rnd 3: Ch 3 (counts as first tr), work (2tr, ch 3, 3tr) all in same sp for corner, ch 1, 3tr in next 1-ch sp, ch 1, *work (3tr, ch 3, 3tr) all in next 3-ch sp for corner, ch 1, 3tr in next 1-ch sp, ch 1; rep from * around, join rnd with a sl st to top of first ch, sl st to next 3-ch sp.

Fasten off yarn.

FINISHING

Using darning needle and matching yarns, sew all squares together with whip stitch to make a scarf two squares wide and 14 squares long.
