Sleepover Cake

Certainly a unique and fabulous cake, the children will have a “ball” making this birthday cake.

Serves 15-20

Ingredients

1 box white cake mix, prepared as per directions

6 cups frosting (choose 2 favorite colors)

6 low-fat Twinkies

6 large marshmallows

6 vanilla wafers

6 to 8 strips licorice

25 to 30 candy dots

3 to 4 strips of fruit leather

1. In a 9¹⁄₂" × 11" baking dish prepare white cake per package directions. Cool; remove from pan and place on a serving dish.

2. Spread a thin layer of icing on the cake.

3. Place Twinkies evenly on the cake, vertically, as if they were “beds.” Place a marshmallow at the top of the Twinkie. Place a vanilla wafer on top of the marshmallow. Now there is a pillow and a “head.”

4. Use licorice (any color) to create hair, and candy dots for eyes. Use remainder of the icing to make a blanket over the “kids.” Use candy dots to create “polka dots” on the blanket.

5. Complete the cake by “framing” blanket and cake with fruit leather.

Moderation Again

Parties are oodles of fun for kids. The goal is to make the activities more appealing than the food. However, what would a birthday party (or any party, for that matter) be without cake? Do not deprive your children of cake — however, learn to slice small, and make a plan for the leftovers. Freeze it, give it away, or get rid of it. As you may well know, cake lying around calls your name!
