For as long as space endures

And as long as sentient beings remain

Until then may I too abide

To dispel the miseries of the world

—Shantideva, Engaging in the Bodhisattva’s Deeds

May I be beloved of beings,

And may they be more beloved to me than myself.

May their bad deeds ripen upon me

And may all my virtue, without exception, ripen upon them.

—Nagarjuna, Precious Garland
