⋮ Ground Nine: Excellent Intelligence

2.2.2.1.1.9. THE EXPLANATION OF EXCELLENT INTELLIGENCE (Sādhumatī, Lekpe Lodrö/legs pa’i blo gros)

On the ninth, the bodhisattvas’ powers, though needless to mention, become completely pure.

They also attain the completely pure form of the correct and discerning awarenesses, qualities that have been theirs all along. (9.1)

This completes the ninth bodhichitta generation from the Entrance to the Middle Way.

Now, an explanation from the perspective of the ninth bodhichitta generation, Excellent Intelligence, will be given.

On this ninth bodhisattva ground, the bodhisattvas’ perfection of powers (bala, top/stobs), though needless to mention, becomes pure in a full and complete way due to analysis and familiarization, causing them to attain all the powers. They also attain the completely pure form of the four correct and discerning awarenesses, which had been their own qualities all along, but here they become completely purified.

These four are the correct and discerning awarenesses of phenomena, meanings, contextual etymologies, and confidence. The first of these correct and discerning awarenesses, that of phenomena, excellently cognizes the defining characteristics of all phenomena. The second, that of meanings, excellently cognizes the classifications of all phenomena. The third, that of contextual etymologies, excellently cognizes how to teach all phenomena in an unmixed way. The fourth, that of confidence, excellently cognizes how to provide in an unimpeded way answers to questions that accord with the dharma.

This completes the explanation of the ninth bodhichitta generation, Excellent Intelligence, from the Entrance to the Middle Way.
