In May 2012, the state of Indiana received reports of malnourished animals and inadequate cages at Great Cats of Indiana, in Idaville. When officers arrived they found animals in horrible conditions. All of the animals were seized. The USDA and the state of Indiana had had complaints about the facility for years.

Three of the tigers were grouped together and entered their transport cages without pause, apparently eager to head south. Assisting on this complex rescue were EFRC staff and several volunteers, all supervised by Indiana Department of Natural Resources law enforcement due to the circumstances surrounding the rescue.

On May 29, 2012, EFRC took in nine new residents: female tigers Kendra and Kiera, male tigers Tigger and Vaughn, female lion Missy, male puma Raja Boy, female bobcat Porky, and two hybrid wolf dogs, Nanook and Six. The two wolf dogs were a surprise. Transport cages were purchased at a local farm store and the dogs were brought to the center for temporary care to avoid the possibility of euthanasia. The wolf dogs were relocated to Black Pine Animal Sanctuary in Albion, Indiana. Black Pine had taken in the rest of their pack at an earlier date, and although EFRC staff and volunteers had already fallen in love with Nanook and Six, it was wonderful to see them reunited with their pack.
