Chapter 2

Upon arriving in Long Island, Jacob found himself a room in a local motel. He walked into the dark room, lying his bags down on the bed, he looks around to scope out the room. He checked the bathroom, then under the beds, looking for what he had no idea, he just made it a habit to make sure that he was always alone no matter what room he was staying in or where it was located. Seeing that there was no immediate threat to him, he closed the door and locked it then he unzipped his duffle bag and then began to lie his guns out on the bed.

He checked the magazines to make sure that they were all loaded, this too was a waste of time as he never carried an unloaded weapon. Once he checked all of the guns, he got on the phone and dialed.

“Hello?” The voice on the other end of the line answered.

“Yeah, is this Peter?”

“Yeah, who is this?”

“This is Jacob, I am now in town.”

“Very good, give me the account number where you want the deposit made.”

“1576895322. I will not make a move until the deposit has been made.”

“I understand, now where are you, I would like to meet with you before you head out.”

“It does not matter where I am, I will check the bank within the hour, and if the deposit has been made I will head out tonight.”

“We really should meet before you go out.”

“Why? I know what I need to do and I know how I am going to do it. You deposit the money, I will find your people, gather some evidence and escape. Then I go back to my life and you do whatever it is you want to make your point with the news.”

“Alright no meeting, but understand that if your caught, you don’t know about us, and we will deny any knowledge that you even exist.”

“I figured as much, don’t worry about me, just make sure that I get the second installment of money, otherwise you will see me again and I will not be nice.”

“I understand, good luck and hope to hear back from you soon.”

“Yeah goodbye.”

“Goodbye Jacob.”

After speaking on the phone, Jacob packs the guns back into the duffle bag, then he leaves the motel room and drives down to the docks, to find a boat that he can use to get to the island, and to do some recon on the island.

He pulls into a parking space and gets out. Looking around the docks, he sees an old man sitting on a white five gallon bucket, with a fishing pole in the water. Next to him is an old boat, it looks as if it is fifty years old with a prop engine on the back of it that looks to be as old as the boat that it sits on. He walks over to the old man sitting on the bucket, takes a seat next to him on the dock.

He sits there for a moment, neither one of the saying a word. Then after a few moments of pause, the old man sitting on the bucket, turns to Jacob and asks,

“What brings you this way?”

“Oh, I was just in the neighborhood and thought that I would come down to the docks and enjoy the smells of fish and crabs.”

“You are full of shit, you don’t come around just for a visit, you are up to something. What is it that I can do for you?”

“You will never let me live it down will you.”

“Of course not, you never come around unless you want something.”

“I am a busy man.”

“Too busy to stop by and just visit an old friend?”

“You are the only true friend I have.”

“Yeah, well you are hard to get along with.”

“I know.”

“So what can I do for you.?”

“Do you have a boat or can you get me one?” Jacob asked as he looked around the dock area to see if he was being watched by anyone. Then as he glanced over to the far end of the docks, he noticed and big black colored boat. It was not too different from any of the other boats around the docks, except that he noticed that this black boat did not have any markings on it and it had no name painted on it anywhere.

“Who’s boat is that down there at the end, the black one?”

“That boat is one that goes out to Plum Island, they leave here each night around six. They ferry people to and from the island.”

“How do you know?”

“Because I sit here every night and watch. I can get some great intelligence.”

“Is that all that they do, ferry people?” Jacob asks as he looks back to the old man on the bucket.

“Sometimes I see people carrying huge crates off of the boat, they load them onto big trucks, each one of them is marked with the logo of different companies.”

“Yeah, that sounds like they are hiding something.”

“So, let me guess. You want a boat so that you can get out there to that there island?”

“Yeah.”

“Well when do you want it?”

“Tonight.”

“Short notice, but I think I can help you out. Come back here when you are ready to go and I will take you out there on my boat.”

“I don’t really want anyone with me, if something goes bad I would not want you getting hurt or into any trouble.”

“Don’t you worry about me, I will be fine, I can take care of myself.”

“Alright then, I will be by around ten tonight then.” Jacob said as he stood up from the dock, and had another look around the area.

“Alright, I will be here waiting.” The old man said without even looking up at him.

Jacob then walked off back towards his car. As he was walking back across the dock back towards the parking lot, he saw a black car sitting on the far side of the parking lot, and it was parked so that the front windshield was pointing right towards the docks. He could not see if there was anyone inside, so he walked over towards the bait shop that was not far from the entrance to the docks. He was trying to get an eye on who may be in the car, and not let them know what car he was driving. He walked on over to the bait shop and walked inside.

“Welcome, what can I get for you?” The man behind the counter asked as he seen Jacob walk in the front door.

Jacob looked away from the parking lot and looked at the guy who had just greeted him as he walked inside. The first thing that Jacob noticed was that the man behind the counter looked like a pretty clean cut looking man, not the kind of man that Jacob would think was working at an old bait shop. He could not see the dirt that he would have thought would be covering the front of the man’s shirt. He also noticed that the man was wearing a button down shirt, which he just knew a man working a bait shop would not be wearing.

“Nothing, I was just wanting to have a look around the shop and see what all you have here.” Jacob replied as he started walking around the shop as if he was really shopping for bait or fishing supplies.

“Well, that is just fine, go ahead and look around, if you need anything just give me a holler.” The man replied as he gave a long look at him and walked off into the back room behind the old sheet that covered the door to the back.

Jacob looked around the room for a second, looking for camera’s, then he walked over and looked out the front window to see if that black car was still sitting in the parking lot. As he looked out the window, something caught his attention out of the corner of his eye. Some movement in the window to his right, on the other wall. He looked over to the window, then he went to that window to see what he could see outside. When he looked out that window, he saw the man that had been behind the counter, standing outside talking to another man that was wearing a nice, hand tailored suit. It was a nice suit that looked as if it must have cost a lot of money. He knew that the man talking to the bait vendor was not there for bait. He quickly walked over to the other window to see the car in the parking lot. When he looked out, he saw the black car pull out of the back spot, and towards the bait shop. He then reached behind his back and grabbed the handle of the glock that he had tucked in the back of his pants. “If you get out and come in here I will take you out,” he whispered to himself.

He watched as the car pulled up to the side of the building, and the man in the suit that had been talking to the bait shop man, walked out from the side of the building and got into the back seat of the car. The car then pulled away and left the lot and disappeared out of sight. He then heard the back door shut and the man walking towards the front of the store. Before the man entered the front area of the store, Jacob walked out the front door and to the side of the parking lot. He walked over to his car, keeping an eye on the front of the shop to see if the man inside was looking out the front window, or if he was going to walk out the front door.

He made it to his car, and got inside, then he started it up and pulled out of the lot. He drove about a block away then he pulled into the parking lot of a restaurant. He parked the car so that he could see the road and the entrance to the parking lot. He sat there watching to see if anyone was following him. He sat there no more than about thirty seconds, then he saw a black suburban drive by. It was not unusual to see a black suburban, but this one had dark tinted windows, and he could see as it went by that it was full of people. He could not see their faces but he could see the outline of them.

He watched the truck drive past the parking lot, then it did a u-turn in the road and went back to the entrance of the parking lot to the restaurant. Once again Jacob pulled out the glock and sat it on his lap preparing for a shoot out in the lot. But as he was getting ready to point the glock at the incoming truck, he watched it pull into a parking space, and out came two teenage boys wearing black suits and two young women step out of the truck wearing nice gowns.

Relieved that he did not have to get into a gun fight on the first day that he was in town, he put the pistol down, in the space between the car seat and the middle console. He started the car backed up and left the parking lot. He made sure that while on his way back to the motel, he took several different turns, and double checked that he was not being followed. When he arrived back at the motel, he made sure to park on the opposite side of the building from where he was staying. He also made sure that he had an exit plan in the event that he was to have some uninvited guests. He went back to his room, went inside, locked the door behind him and sat down on the bed. “This is not going to be as easy as I thought, there are a lot more agencies involved than I was really expecting,” he said to himself as he looked around the room. His thoughts were interrupted by someone knocking on the door.

“Bang-bang-bang.”

He jumps from the bed, grabbing the gun from behind his back, he walks to the window and peeks out from the side edge of the drapes. He sees a woman standing at the door, looking around very nervously. She raises her hand to knock once again, then he yells out, “Who is it?”

“I need to talk to Jacob.”

“Who are you?” he asks as he walks over to the door to unlock it.

“My name is Tina, I need to speak with Jacob.” She said with more anxiety than before.

He puts the gun to the door, so he could fire a shot off through the door if it is necessary. He slides the bolt of the bolt lock back and opens the door, keeping one foot against the door so that she could not force the door open. He opens the door about a foot, then faces her face to face.

“What do you want?”

“Are you Jacob?”

“Again, what do you want?”

“Can I come in?”

“No, tell me what you want or I am shutting the door.”

“I was sent here by Ken, he wants you to know that you are being watched, and when you leave here you are going to be followed by several agents of the Homeland Security.”

“Who the hell is Ken?” Jacob asked now surprised that anyone knew that he was in town.

“Ken is the man from the bait shop, he was sent to watch the docks by the Gorman group.”

“Who is the Gorman group?”

“Look, I can’t tell you anything else, I have to be going, just remember you are going to be followed.” Tina said as she looked around then once she had spoken she walked off away from the door.

Jacob stood there for a moment, then he opened the door and looked around for the woman, but he could not see her. She had disappeared around the corner. He hesitated for a moment, then he could see another black car that was parked in a lot across the street from the motel. He stepped back inside the room, locked the door then he went to the window to look out at the lot across the street where he had seen the car.

When he looked out again, the car pulled out of the lot and drove off down the street. He then turned around and started to pack his weapons and all of the things that he was going to need for that night’s mission. After getting his things together, he put the chair up under the door handle and wedged it so that it was secure, then he went over and threw himself down on the bed. Before he knew it he was asleep and soundly sleeping.

After a couple of hours, he awoke to the sound of several people that were being very loud and walking by the window. He sat up in the bed, rubbed his eyes, and looked at his watch to see what time it was now. Seeing that it was now eight in the evening, he got up and got his back pack together, put his glock in the back of his pants, and took everything and headed out to the car. He opened the door, stuck his head out to take a look around. Not seeing anything that was out of place or abnormal, he locked the door, shut it and headed for his car. He threw his back pack in the passenger seat, jumped in and started the car. Pulling out of the parking lot and heading for the docks, he grabbed his cell phone and dialed.

“Hello.” A man answered on the other end of the line.

“Peter, this is Jacob.”

“I was wondering when you were going to call.”

“Yeah, well I have been busy.”

“So what is going on?” Peter asked as he was anticipating the start of the operation.

“I am getting ready to head out, I will get back with you when I get back with your people.”

“I was hoping to meet with you before you left tonight.”

“Sorry, not going to happen. My time table is in play and I will not alter it for anyone.”

“Well, then, get ahold of me when you get back.”

“I will, and my money better be in the account or I will come to see you.”

“Don’t you worry about that, as soon as we can verify that you have rescued them from the island, the payment will be made.”

“Alright, I will talk with you when I return.” Jacob replied as he hit the call end button and laid the phone down on the passenger seat of the car. Looking back to the road, he pulls into the parking lot of the dock. He pulled into a parking spot just down from the boat he was to be going out on the water in. He looked up and down the whole area, then he steps from the car, retrieves his back pack and walks towards the boat where the old man is suppose to be waiting for him. As he gets to the boat, the bucket is still sitting on the dock, but the old man is not anywhere around in sight. Jacob looks around again, then he steps over to the side of the boat. “Hey old man you around?” he asks as he looks around, making sure that he was not being followed.

“Yeah, I am right here.” The old man said as he walked up behind him.

“I didn’t see you when I walked up here.”

“I told you I could take care of myself.” He replied as he climbed onto the boat. “Are you coming or are you just going to stand there?”

“Nope, I am right behind you.” Jacob answered as he threw his back pack onto the boat and climbed in, taking a seat at the front of the boat.

“So, which direction do you want to approach the island?” The old man asked as he started the motor and pulled the boat away from the dock and headed for the open water.

“I want to try and get to the north side of the island, I think that is where the power plant is located.” Jacob said as he began to get his swimming gear out of his bag and put it on as he was planning on going into the water.

“I can get you within about two hundred feet of the shore, but then you will have to swim the rest of the way, otherwise the security will get suspicious of the boat.”

“That will work, but what are you going to do if they board you?”

“I am just going to tell them that I am out there doing some fishing, see I brought all of my tackle, and fishing is exactly what I plan on doing.” He said as he pointed down to the fishing poles and gear that he had brought with them on the boat.

“That will make for a great cover, I will be back as soon as I can. If you are not here, then where will you be?” Jacob asked as he hesitated putting on the swimming gear.

“I will be here, if I am not here when you return, then that means that they have arrested me and they know that you are in the area.” The old man replied as he brought the boat to a slow speed and they both looked at the all of the lights that were all over the island around all of the buildings.

“Look at all of that fence line, you going to be able to get in there?” The old man asked as he looked at the security of the island.

“No problem, I just hope that they don’t have too many thermal camera’s around there. It will take me a moment to get through that fencing.” Jacob said as he slung his rifle over this back and checked his pistol to make sure that it was loaded, then placed it in his holster on his hip. Putting his face mask on, he made one final check, then Jacob slipped over the side of the boat and into the cold, dark waters around the island.

“Yeah, well good luck.” The old man remarked as he stopped the boat, then began to light the lantern and pick up his fishing poles to begin fishing.
