Opening Dates and Times for the Royal Palaces

BUCKINGHAM PALACE

Palace: normally open August, September and early October, times and days to be advertised. Advance booking advisable.

Royal Mews, Buckingham Palace: January to late March, Wed only 12.00–16.00. Late March to late September, Tues, Wed, Thurs 12.00–16.00. Early October to mid-December, Wed only 12.00–16.00. Closed mid-December to early January. Check precise dates if close to the time of your visit.

The Queen’s Gallery (art exhibitions): early March until just before Christmas, Tues to Sat 10.00–17.00; Sun 14.00–17.00; Bank Holiday 10.00–17.00.

Changing of the Guard: normally on alternate days at 11.30.

ST JAMES’S PALACE

Largely closed to the public.

WHITEHALL PALACE

The Banqueting Hall in Whitehall is the only surviving part of the palace, which burnt down in 1698. Mon to Sat 10.00–17.00, closed Christmas and New Year.

KENSINGTON PALACE

Mon to Sat 9.00–17.00; Sun 11.00–17.00.

WINDSOR CASTLE

Parts of the castle are open daily 10.00–16.00.

St George’s Chapel: open as for castle and for worship on Sundays.

Changing of the Guard: every day between May and early August at 11.00 outside the Guardroom in the Lower Ward; alternate days the rest of the year.

The Queen’s Gifts and Royal Carriages: display of presents from all over the world, and of royal transport. Same hours as the castle.
