HORMONE IMBALANCE

Many essential oils contain natural hormones that, when rubbed on the body, can create a balance without using artificial hormones. I have had a hormone imbalance for several years due to menopause. I have noticed that days when I use these oils are much more productive than the days I don’t use anything. My moods are stable and quite a bit more in tune while using these oils.

Essential Oils: cypress, lavender, clary sage, geranium, frankincense, neroli, rose, basil, bergamot, clove, ylang-ylang, wild orange, sandalwood, Roman chamomile, lime, lemon, grapefruit, and geranium

Combine all the ingredients together in a bowl, using a whisk. Place in a mason jar with holes poked into the lid. Shake the powder into a pillowcase or under the sheet as needed. Store in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, in a cool, dark, dry area, for up to 3 months.

MASSAGE THE BITCH OUT OF ME

Yes, we’ve all been there. Even the sweetest of people can go a little psycho when their hormones are out of whack. HOT FLASHES

One horrible side effect of menopause is an overwhelming sense of heat that seems to start from the inside and burn through to your skin in one tenth of a second. This can range from an occasional burst of heat in some women to hundreds of times a day for other women. Essential oils can have a cooling effect, balance out the hormones, and sometimes decrease the instances of hot flashes. If you are on any medications, you must consult with your physician to ensure that the essential oils won’t counteract your medications.

INSECT BITES/STINGS

These can be small harmless bites, such as those from mosquitoes, to painful and life-threatening ones, such as scorpion or spider bites. Caution and care must be used when treating any insect bite, and you must seek medical treatment when allergies to insect bites or respiratory issues arise. When a mosquito or an ant bites a person, it often leaves a small bump, itchiness, or a sting behind. For small insect bites that one is not allergic to, essential oils can provide immediate relief. If you suspect you are allergic to an insect and you get bitten, seek medical treatment immediately. There are numerous medications and instruments on the market today to assist a person with a life-threatening insect bite or sting.

You can also pour into a roll-on bottle and roll onto the desired area. Be sure not to get any into the eyes or sensitive areas. Store the remainder in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, in a cool, dark area, for up to 3 months.

It’s best to have this process monitored by a professional. Essential oils can help a person by relaxing and calming them, helping to eradicate pain, and ridding the room and person of negative thoughts associated with the withdrawal process.

Essential Oils: lavender, lemon, lime, orange, wild orange, sandalwood, grapefruit, and marjoram

NEVER AGAIN POWDER

Strengthen your resolve overnight as you sleep when using these powders under your sheets. These essential oils will improve your slumber while working to steady your will. The healing properties in these oils contain analgesic, anticonvulsive, antidepressant, detoxifying, sedative, and restorative elements.

YIELD: 10 TO 20 APPLICATIONS

3 drops lavender oil

3 drops sandalwood oil

3 drops marjoram oil

¼ cup cornstarch

Combine the ingredients very well with a whisk. Pour into a mason jar with holes poked into the lid. Shake the powder inside a pillowcase or under the sheets, and wake up in the morning with renewed energy after a cool, peaceful night’s sleep. When storing your jar, you can place a piece of plastic wrap under the lid so that the powder won’t spill out of the jar. Store in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, in a cool, dark, dry area, for up to 3 months.

BREAK THE HABIT BATH SALTS

This luxurious bath will help increase your willpower, and the essential oils have long been reported to make withdrawal just a little bit easier. The benefits of these oils include restorative, tonic, analgesic, cephalic, sedative, cordial, and hypotensive properties.

YIELD: 5 TO 6 APPLICATIONS

7 drops wild orange oil

7 drops lime oil

7 drops marjoram oil

1 ounce carrier oil

3 cups salts (pink Himalayan salt, sea salt, Epsom salts)

1 tablespoon milk (optional for adults, recommended for children)

Add the oils to the salt. Stir until the mixture is well blended. Put in a jar with a lid. Let sit for 24 hours and stir again. Do not make the bathwater too hot, as the oils will dissipate. Do not add the salts when the water is running, but add ½ cup of the bath salt mixture and the milk to the water as you get into the tub. Oftentimes people add 1 tablespoon milk to the water; this will cause the essential oil to blend into the water and not float on top. Store the remainder in a jar with a tight-fitting lid, in a cool, dark area, for up to 3 months.

RELAX ME

Just when you feel like you’re about to make the wrong choice, take a smell of lavender. It can help relax you to the point that you can hold out just a little bit longer due to its analgesic, antidepressant, detoxifying, sedative, and restorative properties. Lavender can also help relieve irritability and nervous tension.

YIELD: 1 APPLICATION

1 drop lavender oil

Place the drop of essential oil on a handkerchief or tissue, in the palm of your hand, or in an essential oil inhaler. Cup to your nose and inhale the aroma. Repeat several times daily or as needed.

WOUNDS

Small cuts and abrasions can benefit greatly from applying a mixture containing essential oils to the wound. Larger wounds that are gaping, or through several layers of skin, should never be treated with essential oils, but treated instead by a physician. Centuries ago, herbs and plants were the only treatment available for many types of wounds, and they were used with great success. The essential oils we have are the very essence of those plants and herbs. Today the risk of infection can be treated in other ways, but many people prefer the nonchemical-based healing of essential oils.

Essential Oils: lavender, tea tree (melaleuca), frankincense, helichrysum, myrrh, geranium, bergamot, lemon, benzoin, chamomile, clove, cypress, eucalyptus, juniper, niaouli, patchouli, vetiver, and St. John’s wort

YEAST INFECTION

A fungal infection causing itching, discomfort, and sometimes an odorous discharge, a yeast infection can be an unpleasant event. Never put essential oils in or directly on the genitals, but they can be used in baths to help heal the area and provide a pleasing aroma at the same time. There are many over-the-counter medications today for yeast infections, but many people prefer the old-fashioned, nonchemical, essential oil way.

Essential Oils: lemon and lavender
