Cleansing Your
Home Physically
and Spiritually

You know your home needs a little bit of sprucing up when, no matter how much you clean, it still feels dirty. The dirt you are feeling is not your everyday dirt. That dirt comes from negativity that has crept into your home without you knowing, making you feel unsettled in a place that is supposed to be your refuge. Then there are the times when you get an overwhelming feeling of crowdedness and sense everything is on top of you to the point where you want to move or throw stuff out. You move all sorts of things and furniture around in the hope of making you feel better, but after a few days, that feeling comes back again.

This is when you need to take action. These feelings are telling you that it is time to get rid of negative energies and make room for exciting new things, not only emotionally but also with material items.

Physical Cleansing

When you physically clean your home, I’m not suggesting you get rid of an old family heirloom or your grandmother’s favorite china. I mean items that take up space with no meaning, use, or reason to be in your home. Take mugs, for example. These seem to accumulate rapidly when I really only need one set.

Look around your home for items you can get rid of, either by throwing them out or donating them. By doing this exercise, you tell yourself that it is all right to let go of emotional baggage. This is the key to moving emotionally forward in life and to let new things in, not only material but spiritual.

Cleaning your home is all about creating a positive space, one that you can be proud to be in. My mother-in-law used to say, “If you haven’t used it for a year, the chances you’ll use it the next are slim.” Apply this saying to clothes and to anything else in your home, especially if there is no emotional attachment from you or your family.

Look in your sock drawer. This is crucial for those looking for love or a business partner. Make sure all your socks are in pairs. Get rid of anything else that is missing its pair or that is broken.

Once you’ve rid your home of all that you don’t need or want, you’ll feel a sense of lightness that comes from order and living in a friendly space without clutter. Once you have completed your sprucing-up, it is time for cleansing the home of negative energies to cement and ground your space.

Spiritual Cleansing

Cleanse your home on Saturdays, as this is the day to get rid of negative energies. Gather the following items on the kitchen counter: sage, a small fireproof container, matches, a white candle, a bowl filled with spring water, and a bowl filled with rock salt. As you gather these items, begin to think about the energy you want to banish and the energy you want to leave behind.

Begin by opening all your doors and windows. Place your hands over the items and meditate on why you are cleansing your home and what you wish to accomplish.

Place the sage in the fireproof container and light it. Light the candle. Pick up the bowl of water. Walk through your home and sprinkle the water in each room. As you do, say over and over, “Element of Water, wash away negativity from my home.”

Once finished, take the bowl back to the kitchen. Light the sage again if it has gone out. Pick up the bowl of salt. Walk through your home and sprinkle the salt in each room. As you do, say over and over, “Element of Earth, strip away negativity from my home.”

Once finished, take the bowl back to the kitchen. Light the sage again if it has gone out. Hold the candle with both hands and, thinking of the negativity you would like to burn while keeping it consistent with your intent, take the candle all through your home. As you do, say over and over, “Element of Fire, burn away negativity from my home.”

Once finished, take the candle back to the kitchen. Light the sage again if it has gone out. Pick up the container with the smoking sage and, in an anticlockwise direction, take the smoke all through your home. As you do, say over and over, “Element of Air, take away from my home the negativity which it now holds.” Once finished, take the sage back to the kitchen. Leave the candle lit and the sage burning, and close all your windows and doors. The next morning, vacuum away the salt.

Your home is now filled with positive spiritual abundance and is a clean living space. Do this cleansing every week, once a month, or whenever you feel it is time to re-cleanse.
