I’ve loved returning to the Lake District for this book; it’s magnificent in all its moods – and weathers! One of the best perks of the job is being able to visit it for legitimate work purposes, which in this book, included visiting some gorgeous photo galleries for inspiration.

My friends, Janice Hume and Phill Ward, who are both talented wildlife photographers, helped me with research for Travis’s career. Janice just happens to be an ace bookseller too and is a great champion of my work.

With her sensitive and insightful suggestions, my editor, Rachel Hart, has made a big difference to this story, and I’m always grateful to my eagle-eyed copy editor, Dushi Horti. I’d also like to give a big thank to the whole Avon team, including Helen Huthwaite, Maddie Dunne-Kirby, Gabriella Drinkwater and Ella Young, in particular.

My fabulous agent, Broo Doherty, and I have had an exciting year and long may it continue! Thank you, Broo, for your expertise, advice and friendship.

My life would also be a whole lot less fun without the wise counsel, cake and laughter I enjoy with my author mates, Liz and Nell aka the Coffee Crew. I’d like to thank the Party People for being a moment away with ideas, commiseration and encouragement.

In Real Life, the Friday Floras are always there for me too, whatever life hurls at us.

Most of all, I want to thank my very special family for their support and love. I love you all, Mum, Dad, John, Charlotte and James.
