If no one in your family can stomach canned beans, don’t buy a dozen cans of pinto beans. Focus on the foods you and your family enjoy and feel comfortable preparing. Make sure you choose foods that are healthy. Eating well is always important, but especially so in times of pandemic, when you want to bolster your overall health and immunity.
If you’ve buying lots of canned vegetables and soups, look for low-salt options. If you have a baby, make sure you have extra formula and baby food on hand. If you have pets, make sure you have extra pet food.
Also think about what sorts of drinks you like. Gatorade is a great choice, especially if someone becomes sick and is fighting dehydration. Even though water shortage isn’t typically an issue during a pandemic, you never want to risk running low on water. A lot of things can happen, from viral water contamination to a disruption in a city’s water treatment services. Humans can survive three weeks without food but only three days without water. Buy gallon jugs of water to store or fill up some old milk jugs or soda containers (after you clean and sterilize them) with drinking water.
