During times of pandemic, you are likely to experience self-imposed or authority-imposed limitations on where you can go and which sources of socializing are entertainment are available to you outside your home. Sometimes, before the availability of a vaccine or effective treatment, the only way to limit the spread of an infectious disease is through social distancing. For the 2020 COVID-19 pandemic, this means that schools are closed, restaurants and bars are closed, sporting events are canceled, travel is discouraged, businesses are either closed or, if appropriate, operating through employees’ remote work. Authorities are urging people to limit gatherings to 10 or fewer.
Different people experience the effects of a pandemic differently, from a quality-of-life perspective. Introverts or people who are accustomed to mostly staying at home may find life during a pandemic to be more tolerable than extroverts or social butterflies or people who get stir-crazy when they spend a lot of time at home. For all people, though, the key to enjoying life (as much as possible) during a pandemic is to (1) do what you need to do to keep your germs to yourself, (2) stay mentally and physically in shape, (3) fight the sense of isolation and boredom.
