As soon as we’re in the bathroom, Callie turns to me.
“You want Westwood tonight?”
“What?”
“Do you want Avery?” she repeats more slowly this time. “Like, want to sleep with him? Because if you don’t, I do.”
“You want Avery? Why are you flirting with Theo then?” Jessie asks.
Callie shrugs. “I’m not flirting with Theo; he’s flirting with me. And I’m flirting back because it’s easy. But I want Avery. With Avery, there’s no chance he’ll want a relationship. I’ll just be another notch on his hockey stick.”
“And that appeals to you?” Jessie asks and Callie nods emphatically. “You never cease to surprise me.”
“But if you’re interested, I’ll back off,” Callie says, looking at me. “No big deal.”
“Oh, hell no.” I laugh and play with my hair as I take in my reflection in the mirror. “I’m not into him at all.”
“Why not?” Jessie asks. “If you want something to get your mind off Luc, Avery would be…”
My memory flashes to last night. I blush. It’s instantaneous and unstoppable. I glance at them in the mirror and they are both staring at me with confused and amused looks on their faces.
“Oh my God,” Callie almost screams, her big brown eyes lighting up like fireworks. “You and Luc had sex!”
“No. Oh my God, no!” I bellow, completely horrified. “We didn’t.”
Callie shakes her head like she’s arguing with me. “Well, something happened between you two last night and you shouldn’t lie to us about it.”
Jessie glances at Callie, then back at me. “Rosie, spill it.”
I play self-consciously with the hem of my shirt. “We just—”
“Just had hot monkey sex?”
“Callie!” Jessie scolds but giggles.
“What? Luc is totally a monkey sex type of guy. He’s all dominant and strong-willed. You know he’s all about the monkey sex.”
“Yeah, you’re probably right,” Jessie agrees, to my horror.
“I did not have monkey sex, or any sex, with Luc!” I interrupt with an edge to my voice. “We just danced… and kind of… kissed by mistake.”
“What?” Jessie squeals, her green eyes as large as dinner plates and her mouth spread wide in a grin.
“Fuck yeah!” Callie bellows and even adds a fist pump.
“You can’t tell anyone,” I beg Jessie. “Especially not Jordan!”
Callie bounces up and down, her long hair flying around her shoulders, and claps like an excited cheerleader.
“When did this happen? Why did it happen? What does it mean?” Jessie, always the practical one, wants to know.
I shrug. “It happened on the dance floor last night. I was dancing and then he was behind me and then… I don’t know, we were all over each other and then we kissed. It just happened.”
“Really?” Jessie looks skeptical. “That’s all you’ve got?”
“I asked him if he regretted it and Callie pulled me in here before he gave me an answer,” I explain and run my hands through my hair. “So no telling anyone about this. Especially Jordan. Your fiancé is a blabbermouth.”
Callie reaches for me and grabs my hands in hers and tugs excitedly. “So was it everything you’ve dreamed about? Because I know it’s all you’ve been dreaming about for years. So was it mind-blowingly hot? Orgasmic? Did it make you wet?”
“You’re such a pig.” Jessie laughs and slaps Callie’s shoulder, then turns her eyes on me. “So did it?”
“It was better than my wildest fantasies,” I admit softly and feel my cheeks heat up again. Jessie and Callie squeal in unison.
