INTRODUCTION

Writing something to a specific script and saying for example, the Ace of Pentacles is the beginning of an earthly adventure; or, the Two of Pentacles is balance in a stormy environment; just sounded awkward. In fact writing an epic fantasy in a non-fiction style was harder than I anticipated when I began this series of books.

Facing such a challenge I decided that the characters and story-line described in each card needed to come alive, something the student and lover of Tarot could fully engage with. Once engaged I then wanted to seamlessly insert the theme for each suit. The theme for each suit is its element – Earth, Air, Water, Fire. To do that I had to craft each Tarot suit’s elemental theme and each individual card description into an entertaining and illuminating epic fantasy novel.

Through these novels I have allowed Follin (the Old French name for ‘Fool’) and his lover, Eve, to help me illustrate how to read the individual Tarot cards of each Minor Arcana suit. Follin’s meditations have also helped me demonstrate how to access each Tarot symbol and archetype.

An understanding of the four elements: Earth (Pentacles); Air (Swords); Water (Cups); and Fire (Wands); are essential to understanding both Astrology and Tarot. With this elemental foundation you will never struggle to understand a Tarot card again.

My Tarot interpretations won’t satisfy everybody. This illustrates the magic of Tarot and our collective unconscious. There is no single correct way to interpret the cards, just as there is no single interpretation to the symbolism and imagery evoked by the Tarot. Your interpretation may be quite different to mine, and that’s fine.

“When you explore the Suit of Pentacles Tarot card meanings, think about pragmatism! This is the suit of money, work, luck and material objects in our lives. It’s about being rooted in the realities of your environment and about building something durable, on a sound foundation. While this is a suit depicting responsible actions geared towards achieving longer-term goals, it can also stand for indulgence. No surprise here though, as this is after all the suit that is the closest to money, and thus to luxury.” Eugene.
