Chapter 24

Though Finn and Dee were perfectly fine, their mom decided to keep them home the next day. Finn wanted to sleep late, if only Dee would let him. Barging into Finn's room, sitting on his bed, Dee nudged him awake. Like he could sleep with her practically sitting on his arm.

"What happened is all over the school. I have like a million texts," Dee said, showing him her phone.

Finn groaned as he looked at the blinking light on the phone sitting on his nightstand. He was about to pick it up when he heard the doorbell. After a minute, Mom called him to the door.

Throwing on some clothes, Finn went to the hall and stopped. Nando was standing by the front door. Finn felt like he should rub his eyes to make sure he wasn't still asleep.

He might be dreaming because Nando didn't seem like his usual self. He looked stricken, both helpless and wound up, like he was ready to fall apart if Finn didn't do or say something. Finn had never seen him like that.

Coming over to him on shaky legs, Nando peered at him intently. Finn could swear he was holding his breath. He looked Finn over as if he needed to make sure he was still in one piece. It made Finn wonder what kind of rumors were going around town.

"I'm fine, if that's what you're asking," Finn said though Nando hadn't asked or said anything. Suddenly Nando pulled him into a bruising, bone snapping hug.

"You live dangerously," Nando told him, holding him too tight and breathing hard against him. Then he kissed him.

It was such a shock of pure, hot pleasure that Finn was almost knocked over. As the kiss ended, all he could do was stare at Nando.

"Now that you got me going, you're living dangerously too," Finn said to him, tasting the kiss and feeling its heat spreading all through him.

"I guess so. Can't let you out of my sight." He looked annoyed with Finn, but his eyes were smiling and a little teary. Overcome with emotion, he was so hot. It was no wonder Finn didn't notice who else was standing there.

After a few minutes passed with Nando nuzzling his neck and calling his name passionately, Finn finally noticed Andrew waiting in the corner like a little mouse.

Nando turned to look too. "Oh, yeah. I gave him a ride," he said like he had only just remembered that Andrew was there. "I don't know how he knew where I was going. I was at school when I heard about what happened. I got into my car, and he sneaked in before I even knew he was there. Then he wouldn't get out until I drove him to your house."

"A man after my own heart," Finn said with approval.

"Him?" Nando squinted at Andrew jealously.

"How did you know where he was going? Did Dee tell you about us?" Finn asked Andrew since he didn't look surprised to see them making out.

"She didn't need to. Everyone knows," Andrew said. "They just don't say anything because they're afraid of Nando."

"But you aren't. Good for you," Finn said to Andrew. Then he turned to Nando and shook his head. "And you, wasting my time with all that sneaking around."

"There's no way everyone knows," Nando insisted through gritted teeth. He was so stubborn and oblivious.

"Dee! There's one here for you too!" Finn yelled, and Nando flinched at the volume.

As Dee came out into the hall, Andrew looked so tearful on seeing her. He was an even bigger mess than Nando as he sniffed pitifully and stared at her.

"But I texted you that I was OK," Dee said on seeing his face and the way he blinked back tears behind his slightly fogged up glasses.

"I had to see you with my own eyes," Andrew said in a shaky voice.

Dee went over and hugged him. Seeing them all over each other, somehow, Finn still didn't want to kick his ass.

"I must love that boy," he said.

Of course Nando took it the wrong way. "You need to stop saying crap like that," he growled.

Finn grinned at him. He was just making it too easy for Finn to drive him crazy.

While the investigation was conducted, Blake and Reese couldn't leave town until the police told them it was OK. Blake didn't really mind staying in Meadowview a little longer. He spent more time with Finn and Dee Dee and got to watch them with their boyfriends.

Andrew was adorable and he doted on Dee Dee. Nando was another story. He glared at Blake constantly, and Finn never stopped stoking his temper. Still, Blake got to see Nando out in public with Finn, being good to him. The way his eyes were always searching for Finn, gazing at him with tenderness and fire, there was no doubt Nando was crazy about him.

Once the police said they could leave town, Blake got ready to try saying goodbye to the twins for the third time. He knew by now that it wouldn't stick. There was no getting rid of them. He and Reese were ready to go, and the twins came over to see them off.

"But now we're used to having you around. You can't go," Dee Dee whined.

Blake kissed the top of her head. "I need to go back to college and my job. I have just this year, and I'll be finished with school," he told her.

"And I'm going to go be his boytoy," Reese said.

"How can we argue when you put it like that?" Finn said to Reese.

Dee Dee was still pouting though. Blake put his arm around her. "We'll text and Skype, and you can tell me all the bad stuff Finn is doing."

"I promise to give you plenty to bitch about," Finn assured her.

"I'm not just going to bitch about you the whole time. I'm an interesting person in my own right," Dee Dee snapped at him.

"And you," Finn said to Blake. "Keep your promise. Don’t make me put a tracking collar on you."

Blake grabbed both of them for a three way hug. Then they were off.

As he and Reese got in the car, Dee Dee yelled, "Just remember, keep in touch, or we'll hunt you down like animals."

Reese laughed and Blake told him, "Let's go before they slash my tires or put a banana in my tail pipe or something."

They drove away with Finn and Dee Dee waving the whole time.

On the road, Blake felt like between them, he and Reese owned the world. Fields stretched out for them. The sun shone down for them alone. He knew that was just love making everything beautiful. This was how it should have been all along.

Love could have brought them together if Blake didn't let fear and denial get in the way. Having been at the mercy of the wrong feelings for too long, he was happy to finally give in to the one that should have guided him all along. He looked over at Reese and grinned like a fool, a damn lucky fool.

After they drove for a little while, Blake said, "First thing we do when we get there – we watch the sunset over the ocean. The first time I saw it I couldn't catch my breath."

"You love a pretty sunset that much?" Reese asked and gave Blake a disapproving stare.

"No. I couldn't stop thinking that I might be on the other side of the country from you. That for you, the sun might be rising over the ocean. I didn't know where you were, and my heart hurt so much, I thought it might just stop beating. That's why I want to see it with you. I want to see the sunset and turn around and see you next to me so you can tell me sunsets are cheesy."

"Sunsets are cheesy," Reese confirmed. "Sunsets on the beach are extra cheesy."

"Save it. We aren't there yet," Blake grumbled. The romantic moment he was planning was already shot to hell.

Reese was still shaking his head at him. "Next thing you'll be telling me that you want us to get married on the beach. I'm not marrying you on any cheesy beach in front of some cheesy sunset."

"Marrying?" Reese said, grinning stupidly at the idea.

"Yeah. What did you think? I didn't hunt you down to let you roam free." Reese eyed him possessively.

"I hunted you down," Blake insisted. Then he said, "And I want to marry you too."

"Just drive," Reese said then he leaned over and kissed him. Snuggling against him, he carefully fitted himself around Blake as he kept the car moving more or less in a straight line.

Blake didn't care about sunsets any more. All he wanted was this feeling – Reese so close that they breathed as one. When Reese blinked, Blake could feel his eyelashes brush his skin. And when he hummed with the music, it carried through his body to Blake's and mixed with the beating of their hearts.
