* One girl to whom Blamey reportedly took a shine as a young man was the sister of a young officer called Arnold Potts, later a hero of the Kokoda Track. She did not reciprocate Blamey’s affections, and it has been suggested that the memory influenced Blamey’s disgraceful treatment of Potts in New Guinea. This seems unlikely at so great a distance, but Blamey was known to hold awesome grudges.
