A novelette is longer than a short story but shorter than a novella—a sweet spot where you get a Happily Ever After in one delicious bite.
I first wrote this novelette about love, sex, and pie in 2015. It was titled Blackberries in the Morning and published in the anthology Taste Me, Tempt Me: Eight Tales of Sweet and Spicy Romance, which released for a limited time that year.
I’ve always loved this story about a single mom who feasts her eyes on a stranger to her small town but wonders if the older man is the type to stick around past morning. I decided to retitle the novelette and rerelease it to coincide with the rerelease of Above All, a novel set in the same mountain town.
Anna Stephenson, the heroine of His Hands, makes a small appearance in Above All—but she deserves her own story here. It’s a short, sexy, sweet standalone, and it comes with a recipe for blackberry pie at the end.
