Experience Beyond The Centre

Away from the city centre, Portugal unfolds in a blend of residential sprawl, industrial parks and the remnants of ancient villages. Older sights include the manicured Parque Eduardo VII to the north, and the 16th-century, tile-fronted Palácio Fronteira to the northwest.

Most of Portugal’s outlying suburbs originated more recently, however, with several Salazar-era buildings and structures – such as the vast Cristo Rei – springing up during the mid-20th century.
