How Yellow nutsedge Spreads via Tubers

•  Tubers grow 6” below the surface,

•  then form primary basal bulbs closer to the surface.

•  After the primary bulb develops it can sprout more than 10 fibrous roots.

•  Fibrous roots then form rhizomes,

•  which then form secondary bulbs,

•  which form more tubers.

Lawn grasses too become weeds in a garden bed, unless you want your flower bed to become lawn.

EXCEPT

Several flowering bulbs belong to the Monocot division, Liliaceae family, have blades that look like Grass as they emerge in the flower beds, like Grape hyacinth, Muscari, and certain Allium, like Chives Allium schoenoprasum. Other bulbs in the Monocot division, Iris family like Hardy gladiolas, Acidantherus murielae and Lily family Camassia lilies, too may display Grass-like early foliage.
