Trickett and Moos (1973) have developed a classroom environment scale that can be used to measure classroom climate. The nine categories measuring the social environment in junior high and high school classrooms are as follows:
1. Involvement—student attention and interest.
2. Affiliation—extent to which students know each other and work together.
3. Support—teacher interest in and concern for the students.
4. Task orientation—orientation of class activities toward the accomplishment of academic objectives.
5. Competition—stress on academic competition.
6. Order and organization—organization and orderliness of classroom procedures.
7. Rule clarity—clarity of rules and student comprehension of the rules.
8. Teacher control—amount and extent of rules governing student conduct.
9. Innovation—different types of learning activities and classroom interaction.
