Squares and rectangles paired with dynamic fabrics can really make a statement on your table. The gray solid provides a nice contrast to the dreamy watercolor-style fabrics. This set is sew easy to whip up, but the results are oh sew satisfying.

Shopping List

NOTE

The shopping list and cutting instructions are for the table runner with two matching place mats. If you want additional place mats, add extra fabric and follow the place mat instructions to make the number that you desire.

Yardage is based on 42˝-wide fabric, unless otherwise noted.

CHARM SQUARES: at least 29 squares 5˝ × 5˝

GRAY SOLID: 1⅝ yards

BINDING: ¾ yard

BACKING: 2⅜ yards

BATTING: 66˝ × 30˝ for table runner; 20˝ × 16˝ for each place mat

Cutting

CHARM SQUARES

From 17 squares:

•  Cut 4 squares 2½˝ × 2½˝ (68 total).

GRAY SOLID

•  Cut 2 strips 5˝ × length of fabric; subcut 2 strips 5˝ × 54½˝.

•  Cut 2 strips 2½˝ × length of fabric; subcut 2 strips 2½˝ × 54½˝.

•  From the remaining fabric, subcut 2 rectangles 2½˝ × 22˝, 2 rectangles 2½˝ × 12½˝, and 2 squares 12½˝ × 12½˝.

BINDING

•  Cut 8 strips 2½˝ × width of fabric.

TABLE RUNNER Construction

Seam allowances are ¼˝ unless otherwise noted. Press after each step, following the pressing suggestions.

Making the Pieced Strips

1.  Sew 12 charm squares together into a strip. Press the seams in the same direction.

Make 1.

2.  Sew 27 assorted 2½˝ × 2½˝ squares together into a strip. Make 2. Press the seams in the same direction.

Make 2.

3.  Sew 6 assorted 2½˝ × 2½˝ squares together into a strip. Make 2. Press the seams in the same direction.

Assembling the Table Runner

Press the seams toward the gray strips.

1.  Refer to the table runner assembly diagram (next page). Sew the row of charm squares between 2 gray 5˝ × 54½˝ strips.

2.  Sew a row of 2½˝ × 2½˝ squares to the top and bottom.

3.  Sew a gray 2½˝ × 54½˝ strip to the top and bottom.

4.  Sew a gray 2½˝ × 22˝ strip to each end of the table runner.

PLACE MAT Construction

Refer to the place mat assembly diagram. Sew a pieced 2½˝ column between a gray 2½˝ × 12½˝ rectangle and a gray 12½˝ × 12½˝ square. Make 2.

Finishing

Layer, quilt, and bind as desired.

Place mat assembly. Make 2.
