Ingredients

1 can of about 16 ounces of pitted undrained tart red cherries

1 and ½ cups of water

¾ cup of sugar, divided

¼ cup of butter, divided

1 cup of all-purpose flour

1 and ½ teaspoons of baking powder

1 Pinch of salt

1/3 cup of 2% milk

½ teaspoon of vanilla extract
Directions

Place the cherries and the juice in a Dutch oven together with the water, about ½ cup of sugar and 2 tablespoons of butter and let simmer for about 5 minutes

Sift altogether the flour, the baking powder and the remaining quantity of sugar; then place in a bowl

Cut in the remaining quantity of butter with a pastry blender; then add in the milk and the vanilla

Add in the milk and the vanilla.

Drop by teaspoonfuls over the mixture of the cherry; then cover and let simmer for about 20 minutes
