WHO AM I?

In a clump of woods 100 yards off the isolated road Professor Fordney examined the dead bodies of two girls. Both, about twenty-seven years old, were well dressed and extremely attractive. Their clothes were torn and it was obvious there had been a terrific struggle. There was a single bullet in the brain of each girl, fired at very close range.

A mile distant, another girl of about the same age was found wandering in a dazed condition, suffering from shock and amnesia. Her hysterical speech had a British accent.

In a ditch on the road an abandoned car was found. From examination of the luggage Fordney knew it had been used by the three girls.

Diligent search of the girls’ effects revealed only extremely meager information.

The girls were Louise Holden, Sandra Worth and Marie Rochelle. All were London school teachers and one of them, who apparently had spent two years in Calcutta, was proficient in Hindu dancing. They were in this country on a holiday, but evidently with a view to remaining if possible. The only other pertinent information secured from the girls’ luggage and handbags was the following:

1. Sandra Worth and the Hindu dancer had agreed to remain in the States only if they secured a teaching assignment in the same school.

2. Louise Holden and the living girl suffering amnesia, had taught in London for five years, while the Hindu dancer had but recently completed her first year of teaching in England.

With the above information, Fordney quickly determined the identity of the living girl.
