REVIEW

The cuisines of Andhra are evolved, big on salt and spice, and completely delicious. This little place is a great representation of coastal Andhra cuisine and what a rich varied cuisine it is. The vegetarian thali has Vanasapattu (jackfruit) stir fried with mustard leaf. The Pappu (dal-lentils) has Maridikaya (mango) and accompanies all meals. It goes best with the Pullihora (tamarind rice). The Drumsticks in Tomato Gravy makes this a rich thali indeed. The Surapidipu is a salty, fishy, Godavari river Delta Shark cooked as a mince with spices, curry leaves and it is very dry. The Bommidala (small Sardine-like fish) Pulusu (tamarind) is massive on flavour and oh, so good! Also try the Kohinga Masala, which is a fish with rich tomato and ginger Masala and the Andhra- style mutton which is tender in the extreme with a fire hot red gravy. Everything is eaten with a small- grained local rice for all meals.

SOMETHING ON THE SIDE

The Andhra-style Biryani is the bestseller and on festivals and special occasions they can sell over 10, 000 packets, each weighing in at 1. 2 kilos with 6 or 7 pieces of chicken for the princely sum of Rs 90 (NINETY, yes you heard us right) only. It is served with a curry (Sherua) and a raita (yoghurt with onions, green chilli, and spices).

Eating Bommidala Pulusu and Andhra Mutton I am completely full,
Once upon a time I was a stud, now i’m a bull.
Even though I’m completely stuffed I’ll still put some more
‘Andar’, because I used to be Homo Sapiens now I’m a bandar.
