Street food at Food Street! A row of little food shops, with names like Parantha Corner, Let’s Snack, and The Kababi Touch offering ‘street food’ from different corners of India (Israel and Mongolia too!) is a popular evening destination. Brightly lit, clean spaces with food prepared as you wait & watch is always a good thing. The Chicken Shawarma— tasting midway between a genuine Shawarma and a Tandoori Roll—is fairly edible as is the Vegetarian Shawarma Roll with multiple sauces, including tahini and hummus, squirted on the deep-fried falafel balls. The Haryali Kabab is unique as besides the usual vegetable mash, it has raw peanuts as a primary ingredient and you can’t taste much else. The Prawn Yakitori claims to be Mongolian and is a crispy, crunchy, spicy dish with baby tomatoes, cauliflower, and capsicum besides the prawns. It may not take you back to your days in Ulan Bator but it will kill your hunger. Between them, the stalls offer over 200 dishes or you could go straight to the dessert and enjoy an ice cream float or sundae.
Most customers order their food for takeaway and business is brisk. Others will order from the busily flitting wait staff and eat inside parked cars or spread their food out on their car bonnet amid the rushing traffic and blaring horns.
