As you walk in, you will see the ‘Pallavi’ Vegetarian restaurant. Behind it is the Anu Pallavi Restaurant. The menu is HUGE! The Vegetarian Thali itself has 14 items and is amazing. We were hungry so we also went with Milagu (Pepper) Potato Fry with a bunch of green chilli and curry leaves as in the delicious Paneer Chettinadu. The Veg. Narangi and Qurma were pleasant. A must have is the Paniyaram (made with a batter of pulses and rice), little balls big on taste and amazing to eat with anything. You get them stuffed with potato etc. as well as sweet. They do a terrific fried Fish Tawa (Pan) with sharp spices and it’s highly recommended as is the Karaikudi Varatakodi (Karaikudi Fried Chicken). The Mutton Roast made with onions, spices, cashews etc. is brilliant. If you’re going to eat one thing here, have the Mutton Roast. If it’s two, try the Narangi Chicken.
The Shiva temple in Chidambaram is dedicated to Nataraja, or Shiva as a dancer. People come from thousands of miles away to worship here. It started 1200 years ago and later, the grandfather of Raja Raja Chola put a golden cover over the temple. This was the first time, apparently, a gold canopy was used in India.
