The Ramaiyya Dhaba is a wide, well-lit kitchen with a large dusty piece of land between it and the GT Road. This piece of land serves as a massive seating area which is almost always filled with customers. There’s a buzz here and the staff works hard and puts out a well turned out, hot meal in quick time. Start with the Paneer Pakora which very good and served on napkins to soak up the oil. The Dal Tadka comes with half a packet of butter melting on top and is tastefully served in a stainless steel bucket. It’s a typical dhaba dal high on spices and filled with coarsely chopped beans, tomatoes, and onions. It definitely hits the spot. They do brilliant Lachha (layered) Roti and Missi Roti made with wheat flour, gram flour, and a few spices thrown in. Sit in the open away from the crowds of Kanpur so you can enjoy a good hearty meal under the open sky.
The Dhaba stays open through the night and is therefore a favourite with sleepy truckers and all the boys and girls of IIT Kanpur.
This Bakait say Hall 9 and Ramaiyya food you can take for granted,
I finally got into IIT Kanpur just like my mother wanted.
Whether you’re a cool Chapu or a studious Maggu, whatever you want to be,
