how to draw a turtle

Steps: 5

Difficulty: dotline.png

Box turtles, like this one, have forward-facing eyes that are high on their head and level with their nostrils. The shell patterns vary with yellow marks on a dark brown surface.

1 Draw a leaning oval, the upper shell shape, and the lower curve.

2 Erase two spaces on the lower curve, and draw the legs and feet. Add a line between them to represent the turtle’s underside (called the plastron).

3 On the face, draw several U shapes and then add a flying-bird shape for the mouth.

4 Add the outer curves of the eyes, the pupils, and the nostrils.

5 Shade the eyes and around the body. To create a shell pattern, shade overlapping vertical and horizontal stripes.
