Iguanas are natives of the rocky and tropical geography of Central America and the Caribbean. Their skin has a range of scaly textures, and some can grow up to 4 feet long! |
1 Draw the main shape of the head, and add an eye. |
2 Draw the skin that hangs down from his neck (the dewlap). |
3 Add the front leg and then the wrinkles. |
4 Draw the front foot. |
Fun Fact
Iguanas have a light-sensing organ called a parietal eye on the top of the head. It doesn’t have a lens like a normal eye, but it can sense changes in the light overhead to warn of potential predators.
5 Sketch the body and tail, leaving a gap for the rear leg. |
6 Draw the rear leg and foot. |
7 Add the nostril, mouth, ear (the tympanum), and the curves around the eye and on the top of the head. Shade the eye and ear. |
8 Draw the pointed spines on the back, and make them gradually smaller as you work toward the end of the tail. |
9 Add the outline of the rocky ground beneath the iguana. |
10 With a sharp pencil, draw the skin texture around the mouth and the round scales. |
11 Add shaded lines and wrinkles on the body, legs, and tail. Draw and shade the far legs, and shade the rocky ground. |
