The goldfish is the classic childhood pet. When drawing this goggle-eyed bowl dweller, angle the curved lines of the scales carefully to create the rounding effect.

1 Draw a line that angles up, curves down, and angles up again.

2 Round the end of the line and then bend it downward for the tail.

3 Complete the tail, and draw most of the rest of the goldfish’s body, starting below the mouth. Leave a gap on the underside to add fins.

4 Draw a curved line to begin the pectoral fin.

5 Complete the fin with another curve, leaving a small gap at the top.

6 Draw the remaining fins and the goldfish’s belly.

7 Add the mouth, the eyes, and a curved line to define the face.

8 Draw the dorsal, or top, fin.

9 Begin the scales with lines that curve downward to the right.

10 Cross the lines you drew in step 9 with ones that curve downward to the left.

11 Shade the eye and body, leaving highlights. Draw lines in the fins and tail.
