Difficulty:
The Arabian horse is powerful and elegant. It has strong chest, neck, and leg muscles; large nostrils and a slightly down-curved (or dished) nose; and a slightly shorter back than other breeds of horses. |
1 Draw a bean shape that’s large on the left and angles up at the right. |
2 Draw the basic shapes of the horse’s neck and head. |
3 Draw the horse’s legs using circles to help create the bulges of the joints. |
4 Erase the construction lines and interior parts of the circles, and smooth the lines of the legs. |
5 Draw the eye, nostril, mouth, and ears. Smooth the lines of the head. |

Compared to other breeds of horses, the Arabian horse has one fewer bone in its spine and 2 fewer ribs.
6 Draw the outer edges of the horse’s mane and tail. |
7 Shade the head, the part of the mane just above the horse’s forehead (the forelock), and the upper neck. |
8 Draw long, repeating lines down the mane and tail. |
9 Shade the mane and tail at the lower edge, and lighten the highlight area of each with a rubber eraser. |
10 Shade the body and legs of the horse as well as the shadow below. |
11 Erase highlights into the body, and darken the undersides and outsides of some edges. |
