Maine Coon cats are large cats. They have long, thick hair and wide feet so they can live in areas where there’s snow. Shade the darkest parts of the hair first and then soften it with short strokes that flow out to pointed tufts.

2 Sketch the outlines of the body and tail.

 

3 Add the basic shapes of the face, beginning with the nose, followed by the eyes, mouth, and chin.

4 Refine the cat’s eyes, nose, and mouth with dark shading and gradations.

 

5 Shade the tufts of the ears and the face markings.

 

6 Sketch rows of curved V shapes across the chest, and shade the V shape of the front legs.

7 Shade the upward-pointing parts of the V pattern on the chest.

8 Shade the fur out from the center of the face and down the cat’s chest.

9 Shade the markings of the front legs and the stripes of the Maine Coon’s tail.

10 Refine the tail and then the front and rear feet.

11 Use a sharp pencil to draw the Maine Coon cat’s long whiskers.
