AVRE – Assault Vehicle Royal Engineers Tank. Churchill tank with mortar (petard) instead of gun which fired 40-pound H.E. charge for use against concrete.

Badger – ‘Ram’ personnel carrier fitted with ‘Wasp’ flamethrower.

Buffalo – Tracked lightly armoured amphibian.

Churchill – 37-ton tank with 75mm gun.

Crocodile – Churchill tank with flame gun in place of bow machine gun.

88 – German 88mm anti-aircraft gun used as anti-tank and high-velocity field gun.

Kangaroo – Armoured Personnel Carrier: A Canadian improvisation based initially on a self-propelled gun chassis (Priest) subsequently on a turretless Ram tank.

LVT – Landing Vehicle Tracked: see Buffalo.

Panzerfaust – German infantry shoulder-controlled anti-tank weapon.

Panther – 45-ton German tank with 75mm high-velocity gun.

PIAT – (Projector, Infantry Anti-Tank): Infantry shoulder-controlled anti-tank weapon.

Sherman – 30-32-ton tank with 75mm or 17-pounder gun.

Spandau – Nickname for German machine gun.

Tiger – 54- or 68-ton German tank with 88mm guns.

Wasp – Universal (or Bren) tracked carrier with flamethrower.
