Racing Career - Part 1
- Lewis first started racing in karts when he was just eight years old.
- He started winning championships almost instantly, and worked his way up the ranks.
- In the year 2000, Lewis won the European Championships with maximum points.
- In 2001, he actually raced Michael Schumacher, who had made a brief return to Karting. Michael beat Lewis, coming four places above him!
- After this, Lewis upgraded to Formula Renault - his first foray into racing cars rather than karts.
- In his first season, Lewis finished a respectable fifth in the overall competition.
- The next year he finished third, then the year after that he finally won - without even having to race in the final two events!
- Lewis immediately moved up to racing at Formula Three level, but wasn’t initially very successful.
- This changed however in 2005 when he signed for ASM. With them he wiped the board throughout the season, winning 15 out of the 20 races.
- Following this whitewash, Lewis was voted the 24th best driver in motorsport in 2005 by Autosport magazine.
