Racing Career - Part 1

  1. Lewis first started racing in karts when he was just eight years old.
  2. He started winning championships almost instantly, and worked his way up the ranks.
  3. In the year 2000, Lewis won the European Championships with maximum points.
  4. In 2001, he actually raced Michael Schumacher, who had made a brief return to Karting. Michael beat Lewis, coming four places above him!
  5. After this, Lewis upgraded to Formula Renault - his first foray into racing cars rather than karts.
  6. In his first season, Lewis finished a respectable fifth in the overall competition.
  7. The next year he finished third, then the year after that he finally won - without even having to race in the final two events!
  8. Lewis immediately moved up to racing at Formula Three level, but wasn’t initially very successful.
  9. This changed however in 2005 when he signed for ASM. With them he wiped the board throughout the season, winning 15 out of the 20 races.
  10. Following this whitewash, Lewis was voted the 24th best driver in motorsport in 2005 by Autosport magazine.
