Racing Career - Part 2

1. Lewis joined ASM’s sister team ART Grand Prix in his next step up - to GP2 racing.
2. He won his first championship in this class!
3. After this win, McLaren chose Lewis to take the second driver position in their Formula One team.
4. Although this was agreed internally in September of 2006, the announcement was not made until November - this was so it wouldn’t be overshadowed by Michael Schumacher’s retirement.
5. In 2007, Lewis set a record for both the most wins (four) and most poles (six) in a debut season.
6. In his second season (2008), Lewis won the championship - the youngest driver ever to do so.
7. Lewis was also the first black driver ever to win the F1 title.
8. Many people have criticised F1 for not being as exciting as it has been in the past - however Lewis proves this wrong as in just four races in 2010 he performed 32 overtaking manoeuvres.,
9. Lewis has announced that in 2013 he will finally break his long association with McLaren, and will join the Mercedes AMG team.
10. Lewis has always worn a yellow helmet - this stems from his karting days when he would wear yellow so his dad could tell him apart from the other drivers.
