AUTHOR’S NOTE

In contrast to my Port Silva Mysteries, Run a Crooked Mile takes place in a real town, Weaverville, in the real Trinity County of inland Northern California—with some minor changes in the landscape as well as fictitious names for a few local institutions. However, the events that make the story, and the characters who participate in them, are entirely the products of my own imagination.

Trinity County Sheriff Lorrac Craig was gracious enough to talk with me about the county itself and the kinds of problems he and his small force of deputies generally handle. He gave me a few details about uniforms, vehicles, sidearms, and the like; but we didn’t discuss specific crimes or enforcement techniques. The sheriff in Run a Crooked Mile is entirely fictitious, and I have no idea whether or not Sheriff Craig would approve of him.
