You Are the Automotive Technician

A 2016 Chevy 1500 with a Vortec 5.3 L engine comes into your repair facility and is having a misfire on Cylinder 4. When evaluating the ignition system for a misfire, the technician must first look to determine whether there is a wiring or component that has visibly failed. What is the next step?

1. Use the scan tool to view the waveform for that cylinder’s ignition event.
2. Use an oscilloscope to project a current ramp or ignition waveform for diagnosis purposes.
3. Replace the ignition coil on the affected cylinder and reevaluate the issue.
