You Are the Automotive Technician

A 2009 Ford F-150 5.4 L truck comes into your repair facility because of a misfire on Cylinder 3. As you are looking at this truck, you notice that one of the coils is sparking against the cylinder head and causing a loud clicking sound. The customer says that the vehicle is running fine; it just has a check engine light on. But when he tried to pull his boat out of the water, the truck stumbled and started making a noticeable vibration. What should be your first step in diagnosing this vehicle?

  1. Scan the vehicle to look for codes.
  2. Replace the engine mount because of the vibration.
  3. Find a boat ramp and replicate the stumble complaint.
