“Where will you go now?” A deep masculine voice asked.
Yesenda turned to see Iain casually leaning against the wall in the hallway.
“I have a friend in Normandy I need to see and another in England,” she replied.
“Is it safe to go alone?”
“As safe as any other place, I suppose,” Yesenda replied.
“How do you ken that?” Iain walked towards her; a concerned look furrowed his brow.
“Tis just what I heard. If you will excuse me, I have things to do before I leave.”
Yesenda tried to bypass Iain, but his arm shot out, and he gently but firmly pulled her back towards him.
“Dinnae lie to me lass, are you in danger? Is that why you are leaving?” Iain asked.
“We’re all in danger, Iain. If you love your clan, you will understand why I cannot stay. Trouble follows me wherever I go. I will not endanger the people I love.”
They stared at one another for some time, then Iain nodded and released her arm.
Yesenda let out the breath she did not realize she was holding. Thinking he excused her, she walked toward the stairs when instead, she found her hand clasped firmly in Iain’s as he pulled her down the hallway.
“What are you doing?” she asked as she tried to tug her hand free, but he only tightened his grip.
Iain replied, “I am going to find out what this danger is, and you, my lovely Yesenda, are coming with me.”
