This classic is comfort in a mug. Try adding some chopped ham or chopped spring onion for extra flavour.
½ cup macaroni
2 tbsp milk or cream
¾ cup grated Cheddar cheese
salt and freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp tomato ketchup
1. Put the pasta in a large bowl and pour over enough boiling water to cover generously. Stir well, then microwave for 5 minutes until soft, stirring once or twice. Alternatively, put the pasta in a large mug and pour over enough boiling water to cover. Stir well, then microwave for 1½ minutes. Continue to microwave in 30-second bursts for 4 minutes, stirring and topping up with boiling water, as necessary, and being careful not to allow the liquid to boil over. Drain well.
2. Put the milk or cream and the cheese in a large mug. Add the drained pasta and season with salt and pepper. Mix together well. Microwave for 2–3 minutes until hot.
3. Top with the tomato ketchup and serve.
