THE DISCOVERY

To unlock your own power, you have to stand on your own two feet. You must be willing to travel alone. For so long I wandered in darkness because although I had the light, I abused it. Instead of using it to help me discover the narrow path, I used it to shine bright on others’ bruised egos. Let me explain.

Jesus is the true light. Without Him you have no shine, internally. This is when we become hungry for others’ approval and adoration. We want validation in our efforts. Am I doing this right? We need clothes, hair, degrees, money, homes, cars, jewelry. How sad. Your entire existence is established on how others see you. Forget how you see yourself. Forget anything real or true. I can make up real and true to be defined as I see fit. I am the ultimate creator. Except I have no life, no purpose, no desire to seek beyond what I see. I’m illuminated and stuck. Conscious and immobile. I am angry. Depressed. And lit, full of intoxicants that keep me “high” while weighed down by all the burdens of life. I am a lie that I have redefined as truth. I am confused.

There are those of us who only want to shine on the outside. We care nothing about truth, only what we see. We want to be clean from head to toe, but filthy on the inside. We don’t bathe. Don’t clean our homes. Don’t pour into our children. Don’t balance our books. We have empty homes and lives. No furniture in our living rooms, and no thoughts in our heads. Empty. No drive, no ambition. We get upset at the sight of any person who wants more in this life. Be satisfied, we think! Eat the strange foods the world provides and shut up! How dare you dream, how dare you try to inspire, how dare you decide!

There are those of us who are sojourners in this strange land. Constantly questioning, constantly seeking. Our senses are heightened. We see past what is seen. Our sight is three-dimensional. We are looking for things that we had heard about from the beginning. Words spoken to us while we were being formed in our mother’s womb. We are looking for the truth. Our food is words spoken from on high. Our steps are ordered so we don’t wrestle with delay. We wrestle with words, with truth, with discernment. We need our light in order to see with holy eyes. Our job is not to shine for others. Our job is to point light to the true light bearer. Jesus.

In this world today, His name is often treated like a curse word. Abomination. People will boldly say God, Almighty, or the Creator, but cringe at the name of Jesus. Even believers will downplay His name while quoting His words. Blind. Blind leaders leading blind children, speaking lifeless words. Void of power. Too blind to see that the way is not following after every trend or fad, or every self-elevated leader or so-called wise ruler. True wisdom is proven by its results.

I had to learn that I have the pull of both warring inside of my fleshly vessel. There is a voice that pushes me to seek after truth, and there is the enemy of that voice that pushes me to stay in the same place and do things my own way. This realization is an important discovery of who you are, but will be impossible to see without the true light. When you can see this truth, you are required to then decide. Pretending not to see is also a decision.
