Operations Center 2, CIA Headquarters
Langley, Virginia
C hris Leroux entered the state of the art operations center, noting only a few of the team had made it in so far, including his top analyst, Sonya Tong.
“Thanks for coming in, everyone. I know it’s your day off, but the professors have helped us in the past, and we’re convinced they’re getting railroaded.”
“No problem,” said Tong. “Weekends are for wusses.”
Leroux smiled. “That’s the spirit!” He dropped his bag at his station at the center of the room and became all business. “What have we got so far?”
Tong pointed at the displays wrapping around the front of the room. “I’ve got the computer running an analysis on the security camera footage. When Randy gets in, he’ll pull it apart. That’s his area of expertise, but so far, I’m not seeing any discrepancies or anything to suggest this is anything but genuine.”
“What about on the scene? Have they found them? If it’s fake, then they’re still inside.”
“No, there’s still a lot of bodies they haven’t identified yet. Somebody leaked a list that the police have been putting together. Now the press is going apeshit because it’s a who’s who of Forbes and Hollywood.”
Leroux frowned. “So, they haven’t identified them among the survivors or the dead.”
“No. And this list is pretty complete. It looks like they used shrapnel bombs. Just IEDs on a remote trigger. We’re not sure yet why it was detonated when it was. They’re interviewing witnesses, but I haven’t been able to access any of that information yet. State has someone on the way there since there were so many of our people involved, so hopefully we’ll have more answers shortly.”
Leroux sat. “We need to find out why they left only minutes before. We all know they’re innocent. I want to know why their Facebook profiles look like they’re eco-terrorists. Tommy Granger says that they’re cloned. Take a look and see. I want to know when they were created, who created them. I want to know everything there is to know about those profiles. And I want every damned camera we have access to in that city looking for them. If they left that museum, they had to go somewhere. I want to know where they went before the Spaniards find them.”
“We’re on it.”
Leroux rose. “I’m going to go brief the chief.”
“He’s in?”
“I’m not sure, but I saw his car. I think I heard his wife is visiting her sister, so you know when his house is empty, he lives here.”
