his is an interesting one.”
Leroux stepped over to Tong’s workstation, having pushed Tommy’s intel over to her as it came in. “What?”
“One of these guys is former German Army. He’s a demolitions expert.”
“Well, that would explain how they were able to make the bombs. What can you tell me about him?”
“According to the profile Tommy found, it looks like he joined them less than a year ago.”
“When did he leave the military?”
“According to the file we have, about two months after he joined the Animal Protection Brigade. Their equivalent to a dishonorable discharge.”
“What did he do?”
“He punched out a senior officer.”
Randy Child, his team’s tech wunderkind, offered a suggestion. “Maybe he caught him wearing leather boots.”
Tong ignored him. “The peanut gallery aside, around the time of his discharge, there was a report of some missing weapons. It was never solved.”
Leroux scratched his chin, several pieces of the puzzle starting to fit. “That probably explains a few things. Start running him down, the usual. Known associates, when he went off the deep end, that sort of thing. I think we might have found out where the weapons went, but we need to figure out where they got the explosives for the attack. I’m guessing we’ll find out they were all homemade, cooked up in someone’s basement.”
“We’ll run it down, but you should see this.” She pointed at the display at the front of the room. “I’ve pieced together the footage of all the different terrorists, all seven of them, with the names we’ve been able to gather. We’ve been able to link them all to the Animal Protection Brigade. And we think this guy’s the leader.” A file with a photo was highlighted. “His name is Hugo Peeters. Certified nutbar.”
Leroux chuckled. “Okay, send that to Agent Reading. See if he can confirm that he is indeed the leader. Apparently, he’s in the hospital undergoing surgery. And start going through everything we can find on him. Go through his social media, find out what emails he has and get into them, everything. We need to find out all we can about him, and see if there’s any reference to who their financial backers are.”
