This chapter contains eight practice tests; two each in verbal skills, reading comprehension, mathematics, and science. The questions are modeled on the questions in real nursing school entrance exams. They cover the same topics and are designed to be at the same level of difficulty. Answer explanations are given at the end of each test.
These practice exams are intended to help you test your knowledge of each subject area and sharpen your test-taking skills. The real exam that you take will include questions from several different subject areas. It will also have its own specific organization and time limit. No matter what the format of your real exam, these practice tests will prepare you for the questions you will face on test day.
Each test includes an Answer Sheet that you may want to remove from the book. Use this sheet to mark your answers. When you are finished with each test, carefully read the answer explanations, especially for any questions that you answered incorrectly. Identify any weak areas by determining the subjects in which you made the most errors, then go back and review the corresponding chapters in this book. If time permits, you may also want to review your stronger areas.
These practice tests will help you gauge your test readiness if you treat each one as an actual examination. Here are some hints on how to take each one under conditions similar to those of the actual exam.
• Find a time when you will not be interrupted.
• Complete each test in one session, following the suggested time limit.
• If you run out of time on any test, take note of where you ended when time ran out. This will help you determine if you need to speed up your pacing.
