Introduction

One of my first memories, at the age of two, is of my own spirit guides. My parents and siblings referred to them as my imaginary friends, but to me they were real and still are. They have names and physical features, they’re not transparent like what is shown in movies. I could—and still can—see them, feel them, and hear them. I believe that everybody can connect with their guides, they just need to understand how.

My first guide announced himself as Alto, a Native American Indian with tanned skin and long, shiny, raven-black hair. Although most of the time he displays a serious look on his face, his gentle brown eyes show his softer side. Dressed in tanned hide pants and a colorful jacket, he wears many necklaces, bracelets, and even earrings. There are no tattoos or paintings on his skin, and no headdress. My main protector and spirit guard and guide, he helps inspire and encourage me through every challenge life throws my way. I cannot count how many times I have apologized to him for being frustrating and hardheaded.

My second guide, an Irish beauty named Tallie, has shoulder-length, red, curly hair. Her blue-green eyes sparkle like calming water. Tallie has a peaceful demeanor and a sophisticated sense of humor. Her love of literature, music, and nature help to ground me and steer me to beautiful things. She has also been the one who helped with love and lost love.

And then when I was thirteen years old, another guide presented himself to me. His name is Edgar Allan Poe.

Everybody has a spirit guide (or guides), whether known or wanted, assigned to us before we are even born. Guides are people who have once lived on the earthly plane, experienced love, heartache, and all emotions life has to offer. They are responsible for guiding us through our life and leading us on the best path with the least amount of karma.

Chosen through vibration or through our own higher selves, a guide would be someone who, if alive in this earthly plane, you would get along with famously. They aren’t necessarily famous (but they could be). If you have ever gone into a grocery store and a complete stranger comes up and talks to you, and during those brief moments you have a connection—that is vibrational alignment. The same goes for those you meet and your first and final impression is that you just don’t like them. Your guide is vibrationally aligned to you.

Some guides are with you throughout your lifetime, and some are transitional guides who show up to assist you in specific areas of your life for a specific reason. If you are going through medical issues, you may have a guide who had been a nurse or a doctor in their earthly life, or had gone through the same medical issue. If you are going through love issues, a guide may join your team who had a long and successful marriage, or maybe was a marriage counselor. There is always a logical reason behind each spirit guide. Guides guide with what they learned on the earthly plane. When we cross over, we choose our job. So if you thought you’d be floating around in the clouds playing the cello or harp, you are sadly mistaken. Well, unless you are a musician now and will be assisting a fellow musician as a guide. So there is an even greater incentive to learn and grow now as it follows you even into death.

What I didn’t know at the age of thirteen was the impact that Edgar Allan Poe would have on my life and continues to have. It had nothing to do with his writings or pressure to channel him and write, although it certainly hasn’t hurt. In his life, Poe stood for justice and yet received anything but. So in this lifetime, through me, we uncover truths of the past, what some may call macabre—murder, suicide, perceived accidents—that have found their way into this lifetime. I have always been a reluctant psychic and medium, but Poe has been an encouraging and insightful guide, especially with missing persons cases. His insight has been integral in assisting me with trusting my own gut instincts along with channeling his confidence. As much as he would love to say that we solve them, I give full credit to law enforcement. However, it doesn’t take away from the fact that this insightful guide and sleuth, a man often called a lunatic, is far from mad. With his assistance, we peer into the darkness to shine a light on the wrongs that have found their way into this lifetime.

Edgar Allan Poe walked me through his life, which intersected with my own past life—a life that I knew was there, but didn’t know to what extent. It is said that we repeat lives if we haven’t fulfilled something from the past. Poe helped me not only discover what I missed in a long-ago time by taking me on his own journey of life and death, but he helped me put my soul pieces back together in order to help others with their own life-and-death mystery.

Poe experienced much turmoil in his life and went on to die misunderstood. His bitterness shines through the cracks of the leather-bound poems and literature. But as we are all given the chance to perceive our life in-depth from the other side, we learn and we grow, if we choose to. We can then go on to help others who are going through similar experiences. Edgar Allan Poe (and other divinity) decided to use me as a vessel not just to share his experiences, but to experience them with him so that I may share with you as I was guided in spirit by Edgar Allan Poe.
